    What is a LEED Certified Home?

    Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is an international recognized rating system for green building. Through sustainable and environmentally-friendly design, construction, and home operations, we can greatly reduce our ecological footprint as well as efficiently and affordably run our homes for years to come.

    LEED homes have numerous benefits for the homeowner. Built with a more efficient and tighter building envelope, LEED provides better indoor air quality – decreasing allergens and sensitivities, offer a more consistent temperature throughout the home – reducing hot and cold rooms, and are constructed using non-toxic materials, resulting in an overall healthier home for the buyer.

    LEED homes also result in more money for the homeowner’s pocket through conservation of energy, decreased water consumption, greater longevity and durability, increased resale value, and can be eligible for reduced home insurance premiums.

    A home is recognized as LEED certified when it meets achievements in each of the following eight categories:

    • Innovation & Design – durable and high performance;
    • Indoor Air Quality – fresh air and even temperature;
    • Water Efficiency – uses up to 70% less water indoors;
    • Energy Efficiency – reduces your carbon footprint and can save as much as 70% on energy bills;
    • Location & Community – built on previously developed land;
    • Site Sustainability – minimal impact on area; Materials & Resource Use – uses recycled and sustainable material; and
    • Awareness & Education – helps you get the most out of your home.
