Architectural Technologist

If you have a detail-oriented, practical and collaborative mind with a passion for new home drawing and design, you might just be the perfect fit for our Drafting department.

Some drafting roles are “draw what you’re told.”
This one is “help shape what we build.”

At Parkwood, drawings aren’t paperwork — they’re the difference between a smooth build and a thousand tiny fires. If you care about clarity, buildability and doing things right (and you’re the type who actually likes learning), we want to hear from you.

Who We Are

Parkwood Master Builder is a family-owned, Edmonton-based home builder specializing in single-family homes and multi-family developments across Edmonton and surrounding areas. We build custom homes at scale — meaningful customer choice, strong systems behind it and a team that works collaboratively across design, sales, estimating, drafting and construction.

The Role

You’ll support our design and production team by creating and updating residential drawings that are accurate, permit-ready and easy for the field to build from. Depending on your strengths, you’ll take ownership of parts of the drawing process and grow your scope over time.

What You’ll Do

Create and maintain production-ready drawings

  • Produce and revise drawings for single-family homes (and multi-family projects as needed)
  • Prepare construction documents: floor plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules and notes
  • Maintain master plans and option libraries so production stays consistent

Support customer-driven changes

  • Turn purchase agreement requirements, addendums and change orders into accurate plan updates
  • Collaborate with Sales and Design on feasibility, code impacts, zoning and plan adjustments
  • Keep drawings aligned with what’s been sold and what can actually be built

Coordinate technical inputs

  • Coordinate requirements with consultants (structural, mechanical, energy etc.)
  • Support procurement and coordination of documents like engineering, truss and joist layouts, energy modelling, window schedules and related items

Permits and compliance

  • Help prepare building and development permit packages and guideline submissions as required
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta Building Code and applicable municipal bylaws (Edmonton and surrounding areas)
  • Flag issues early and propose practical solutions to keep files moving

Field support and continuous improvement

  • Support Construction with drawing clarifications and problem-solving
  • Participate in site reviews as needed to validate design intent and improve future drawings
  • Contribute to improving drafting standards, templates and plan libraries over time

Who You Are

You’re detail-oriented, practical and collaborative. You produce clean, consistent drawings and you communicate well across Sales, Estimating and Construction. You take feedback well and you improve quickly.

What You Bring

Required

  • Architectural Technology diploma (or equivalent experience and training)
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SoftPlan, Revit, ArchiCAD — we care more about competency than brand)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

Assets

  • Residential production drawing experience
  • Familiarity with Alberta Building Code and municipal and zoning requirements
  • Permit submission experience in Edmonton-area municipalities
  • Multi-family and townhome experience
  • Consultant coordination experience (structural, HVAC, energy modelling)

Why Parkwood

  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Generous annual time off
  • Personal development and coaching programs
  • A collaborative environment where Design, Sales, Estimating, Drafting and Construction actually work together
  • Team events, happy hours and Building a Difference Day (paid volunteer day once per quarter)
