Fall into home care with a parkwood psl!

It’s that time of year again! Fall is here and the world has been blanketed in a sea of pumpkin spice and everything nice. With that in mind, let’s talk about the PSL of home maintenance. (HINT: it’s not a sweet treat from Starbucks BUT it will keep your home happy and healthy through the seasons.)

“P” IS FOR preparing for the deep freeze

Show your humidifier, furnace and HRV filters some love by cleaning them out to keep the air in your home fresh throughout the season. You should also make sure your humidifier is turned on for fall. As a general rule, keeping your humidity levels at 25% – 35% will help improve airflow and combat moisture by balancing your home’s humidity and condensation.

“S” is for scooping out your eaves

Get rid of the grime by winter time! Have you checked your eaves yet? It’s very important to take care of those loose leaves, dirt and debris so you don’t end up with a frozen, clogged up system. Don’t forget to put up your downspouts before the temperature drops and place them down on warmer days to manage the melt. Just make sure they are pointed away from your foundation. If you see run-off, watch for pooling around your home and adjust your downspout when needed.

“L” is for looking out for your hose bibs

Getting your hose bibs ready for temperature drops before the frost sets in is a minor maintenance item that will help you avoid major repairs in the future. Be sure to disconnect your garden hose(s) from your exterior hose bib(s) before the temperatures start to hit freezing levels! This will help avoid frozen and cracked pipes.
